Kevin Carey's "Student Debt in America: Lend With a Smile, Collect With a Fist'

Kevin Carey's piece, "Student Debt in America: Lend with a Smile, Collect with a Fist," was published this past weekend. There are a lot of things that could be said about this piece, some good, some bad.

I'll save those remarks for later, but for now wanted to share it in case anyone missed its publication.

If you have any thoughts on how it was framed, I'd be interested in hearing them below.

The part that bothers me the most is that Obama has proposed capping what is able to be forgiven at the end of 10 years for public service workers. Seriously - is this a joke? This is the last option some of us have. It also bothered me that Ms. Kelly stated she was not a victim. Then what was she? Yes, she made a decision to go to school and finance her education through loans, but she is a victim of a system that preys upon the honorable intentions of such people. Nobody wants to be $410,000 in student loans debt. I highly doubt she thought to herself, "I'm going to screw over my life and my future." Let us not forget that according to the article, her balance is as bad as it is because of interest.

Yes, this needs some pointed critical comment. Please inform me when Cryn's piece comes out. I'm glad she is taking this one on.
