Congratulations, Cryn!
I used to live in Reston until the rent got so high that I couldn't cover it along with my student loans. I lived in my car and on busses for about 10 months afterward. That's what a master's degree gets you in this country I guess!
Nice work. I support you while-heartedly in your endeavors to re establish justice!!
I am very sorry to hear that you have had to live in your car because of your student loans.
Is there any way your family can help?
This upsets me deeply.
And thanks for the congratulatory remarks.
Unfortunately, my family lives on the other side of the country and my parents are of the opinion that getting into debt was somehow my fault. I don't mean to be a victim, but they claimed me as a college student in their house on their taxes even though I had moved out, which disqualified me for any grants and gave them a tax break. They also didn't save up for my tuition because I was a girl and "the only reason girls go to college is to find husbands." When word that the Silver metro line was going through Reston got out, rent for my one-bedroom apartment climbed up to almost $2,000 per month. I finally found something cheaper farther out from DC but things are still tight and as more of these loans come due, I'll be in another pickle.
Thanks for caring, Cryn. Thanks for understanding and reminding me that this scam is not my fault. I followed the rules. The system failed me.
